It’s hard to remember a time when Samsung wasn’t a major part of modern life. This tech giant leads the way with so many products that we use daily. But it’s not actually been that long since Samsung were the newbies in the market. Competing against some tech giants like Apple and Nokia. And they’ve quickly risen to the top of the Android market.
So, we thought we’d take a look back at the history of Samsung phones.
Okay, technically not the beginning. The history of Samsung starts when they were originally founded – back in 1938. And their electronics division’s been on the go since 1969. But the SGH-100 had the honour of being their very first mobile phone – released in Korea in 1988.
In September 1998, Samsung introduced the SGH-600 – the phone that helped them break into Europe.
Designed to appeal to simple, clean design tastes, the SGH-600 was marketed to “high-end” customers. The plan worked and it sold well. The awards started rolling in and Samsung started to think about the next big thing.
Tipped by GSMarena.com as “the new leader of the Android pack” – the Samsung Galaxy S changed everything. Released in June 2010, it brought Samsung to the forefront of people’s minds when it came to Android devices.
And since then, they’ve been killing it in all corners and price ranges of the Android market.
Tipped as one of the best phones of 2018, the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus were awesome. They gave us Samsung’s most immersive viewing experience yet with their new Infinity display and dual-stereo surround sound speakers.
And when it came to the camera, Samsung seriously upped their game with loads of new and improved tech.
One of our favourite features is the dual-aperture lens. It works like the human eye, adjusting depending on the amount of light coming in. That makes for amazing shots, wherever you are.
And it wasn’t just us that loved the camera updates. The S9 Plus camera earned a DxOMark score of 99 – DxOMark’s highest score ever, at the time.
2019 saw the 10-year anniversary of the Galaxy S series. We hoped Samsung were going to pull something awesome out of the bag to celebrate, and we weren’t disappointed.
They introduced us to 3 new members of the Galaxy S family – the Galaxy S10, S10+, and the S10e.
The flagship S10 gave us the premium Galaxy experience. With a new look and a load of new tech, including a faster processor, professional-grade cameras, and Wireless Charging 2.0. And that’s not all. 5G arrived in 2019 and Samsung were quick off the mark with the 5G ready S10.
The S10+ supercharged that experience. We’re talking more power, a bigger battery, more cameras, and a bigger screen.
Then with a new compact design, and flat HD+ Infinity-O display, the S10e proved that size doesn’t always matter. Small, perfectly formed and full to the brim with new Samsung tech – what’s not to love?

Samsung kicked off the new decade with a trio of epic new devices – the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra.
The S20 range has been tipped as the smartphone cameras to end all cameras. And with some seriously impressive camera specs and new tech, we can see why – Space Zoom, anyone?
And that’s not all, with the new Exynos 990 processor, the S20 range is smoother and faster too.
Oh, and did we mention they’re all 5G-Ready?
