September 14, 2023
In the world of mobile, September means one thing and one thing only: new iPhones.
At their Wonderlust event on 12 September 2023, Apple announced 4 new iPhones: iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
First up, let’s have a closer look at the new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
With 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR displays1, iPhone 15 and 15 Plus have an all-new design. The first thing you’ll see is that the notch is gone. It’s been replaced by the Dynamic Island we saw on iPhone 14 Pro last year. It’s a handy new feature that makes sure you don’t miss a thing. Check alerts, track your takeaway delivery, or pause your playlist.
The edges are now contoured instead of straight, and the colours are embedded right into the glass on the back and have a textured matte finish. There are 5 colours to pick from: black, blue, green, yellow, and pink.
iPhone 15 and 15 Plus use the A16 Bionic chip introduced on iPhone 14 Pro. It’s super-powerful, enabling the improved Portrait mode and better battery life2. It also delivers a faster GPU performance, which makes for a smoother experience when playing graphics-heavy games.
iPhone 15 camera system has been completely redesigned with a new 48MP main camera. With up to 4x resolution, capture amazing detail in every shot. With 3 zoom options, it’s easy to take perfect pictures. And the 2x Telephoto zoom is like having a third lens.
We all love Portrait mode – it gives a crisp, clear subject with buttery-soft bokeh. And now they’re even better.
The new Photonic Engine combines the high-resolution image with another that’s optimised for light capture. The result? A rich, detailed 24MP photo with twice the resolution but a smaller file size – perfect for sharing.
One of our favourite new iPhone 15 camera features is that you no longer have to switch to Portrait mode manually. If your phone detects a person, dog, or cat in the frame, it automatically switches to Portrait mode. So you’ll never miss the moment again. You can apply it later in the Photo app, too.
Both iPhone 15 and 15 Plus have an all-day battery with 20 hours and 26 hours of video playback, respectively. That’s up to 3 more hours than on iPhone 12. When it comes to charging, fast charging lets you power up to 50% battery in 30 minutes. All 4 new iPhones use a USB-C connector, and with USB 3, you get a huge leap in data transfer speeds on iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.3
Next up, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max:
iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max both sport the same new contoured edges as iPhone 15 and 15 Plus but have a strong, light, aerospace-grade titanium design with a tough Ceramic Shield front. Weighing in at 187g and 221g, respectively, iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are the lightest Pro series devices yet.
They both have the new Action button, too. You can customise it to do whatever you like, from turning on silent mode to launching the camera or a favourite app.
