OnePlus release the hotly anticipated OnePlus 10 Pro this week. But how does it stack up to last year’s 9 Pro? And which OnePlus is right for you? Let’s pit these devices head-to-head and see which emerges victorious.
Both phones have 48MP main cameras, 50MP ultra-wide lenses, and 8MP telephoto lenses. So you’ll have plenty of options for getting creative with your photos. The OnePlus 9 Pro also has a 2MP monochrome camera. It lets you capture more detail when shooting in black and white – but it’s notably missing from the OnePlus 10 Pro.
To be fair, this monochrome camera has niche appeal. It’s unlikely you’ll miss having it on the OnePlus 10 Pro. But if you’re an arty photographer that loves shooting in B&W, it’s a difference worth considering.
While the specs are identical, there are plenty of other improvements to the cameras on the OnePlus 10 Pro. The ultra-wide lens now lets you choose between 110 and 150-degree angles. You can now shoot in RAW format for better editing. And the new Master Style options give your photos a professional edge.
But what about selfies? The OnePlus 10 Pro has a 32MP selfie camera – double the 16MP one found on the 9 Pro. So, expect crisper, more detailed self-portraits on the newer device.
Overall, there have been some really nice camera improvements made to the OnePlus 10 Pro. Yes, you’re missing out on the monochrome lens, but you’re gaining a better selfie camera and enhanced software options. The OnePlus 10 Pro takes the camera crown.
Winner: OnePlus 10 Pro
Both the OnePlus 10 Pro and the OnePlus 9 Pro have stunning 6.7in displays with QHD resolutions. And both have adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz for super-smooth scrolling. Where the OnePlus 10 Pro pips the 9 Pro to the post, however, is in the technology used to allow these refresh rates.
The OnePlus 10 Pro features LTPO 2.0 screen technology that makes the display feel more responsive than ever. Plus, because it can reduce the refresh rate when the screen’s still – like when you’re reading a webpage – it saves the phone’s battery too.
Although similar specs-wise, the OnePlus 10 Pro has a smoother, more responsive display than last year’s 9 Pro. It’s the clear winner here.
Winner: OnePlus 10 Pro
When it comes to battery life, the OnePlus 10 Pro beats the One Plus 9 Pro hands down. It has a 5,000mAh capacity compared to the 9 Pro’s 4,500mAhs, and an 80W charger compared to the 9 Pro’s 65Ws. That means it’ll not only last longer, but charge faster when out of juice too.
Both phones also feature 50W wireless charging and come with chargers in the box.
Winner: OnePlus 10 Pro
Let’s face it, design is subjective. With slim profiles and well-hidden selfie cameras, both the OnePlus 10 Pro and OnePlus 9 Pro are good-looking phones. But the biggest design difference comes on the back of the devices.
Where the 9 Pro took a simple approach to its camera array, the OnePlus 10 Pro makes a statement. Coated by 3D nano-microcrystalline that’s polished for over 60 hours, it feels premium and is sure to turn heads.
But which looks better? That’s up to you to decide. We’re giving both a point in the spirit of fair play.
Tied-winner: OnePlus 10 Pro and OnePlus 9 Pro
Having compared the major differences between the devices, here are the final scores:
OnePlus 10 Pro: 4
OnePlus 9 Pro: 1
While the changes are certainly more an evolution than a revolution, there’s no denying that the OnePlus 10 Pro is the superior device. However, if you want to save a bit of money, the OnePlus 9 Pro is still an excellent phone to buy in 2022.
