The 2023 Xiaomi 13 Pro is packed with incredible features, but how does it compare to the Xiaomi 12 Pro that launched in 2022? Here’s everything you need to know about the Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi 12 Pro specs.
The new flagship 13 Pro is slightly thicker and heavier than the Xiaomi 12 Pro, but it’s still slick and streamlined. It comes in 2 different material options on the back — bio-ceramic and silicone polymer — compared with the Gorilla® glass on the rear of the Xiaomi 12 Pro. Switching from glass to these new materials adds durability, and the Xiaomi 13 Pro comes with an IP68 water and dust resistance rating that the 12 Pro doesn’t have.
The Xiaomi 13 Pro is available in 4 colour variations: Ceramic White, Ceramic Black, Ceramic Flora Green, and Mountain Blue in the polymer version. While the Xiaomi 12 Pro comes in 4 glass finishes: Grey, Blue, Purple, and Green.
The Xiaomi 13 Pro has the same 6.73in LTPO QHD OLED display as the previous Xiaomi 12 Pro model. They both have 1 billion colours and a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth streaming and lag-free gaming. They both also support Dolby Vision and HDR10+ for dynamic colour and brightness on streaming services.
The main difference is that the new Xiaomi 13 Pro has a brighter display of 1900 nits peak, compared to 1500 nits on the 12 Pro. Giving you a better, more vivid viewing experience.
The Xiaomi 12 Pro is still running Android 12, with the Xiaomi’s own MIUI 13 user interface on top. But the Xiaomi 13 Pro has the latest MIUI and Android as standard. MIUI 13 is easier to use than ever before. It puts all your most used controls in one place, so you don’t have to use buttons for them. And if you need to access a control that’s not in the control centre, you can do that by swiping down from the top of the screen.
The Xiaomi 13 Pro has a slightly larger battery than its predecessor, so a full charge lasts longer.
Both phones use the company's fastest 120W wired charging, so the Xiaomi 12 and 13 Pro charging speed is incredible — giving you a full refill in under 20 minutes. They're also both equipped with fast 50W wireless charging, but you need the wireless charging dock to do this.
The Xiaomi 13 Pro features Qualcomm's newest platform: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. This processor gives you a faster, smoother performance than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor in the 12 Pro.
The 13 Pro also comes with faster RAM and storage chips. You get UFS 4.0 flash storage in the 256GB and 512GB models of the 13 Pro, whereas the Xiaomi 12 Pro uses UFS 3.1. This means that read and write speeds will be faster on the 13 Pro models with larger storage, so downloads and app installs will be quicker.
Both the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 13 Pro camera is an advanced triple camera system, with 3 x 50MP sensors. But the primary camera on the 13 Pro is a 1-inch Sony IMX989 50.3MP sensor which increases the pixel size and promises even better optical performance.
Both phones have a 32-megapixel selfie camera, but one key difference on the new Xiaomi flagship is that it has a Leica stamp on the camera. Xiaomi has partnered with the iconic camera company to take your photography to the next level.
The telephoto zoom lens on the new Xiaomi 13 Pro now has up to 3.2x equivalent optical zoom, versus the 2x zoom on 2022 model. And it can now record in 10-bit Dolby Vision at 4K resolution.
