iPhone 15 – debunking the rumours 

Ahead of iPhone 15 Series launch, rumours were flying around for months on what to expect from the most-anticipated release of the year. The conversation was mainly centred around whether Apple will begin the switch to USB-C charging in this release – meaning unparalleled convenience across all devices – and whether Apple planned to follow in the footsteps of Samsung and Google to introduce a flip or fold style handset.

Last year saw the release of four new devices, including two base models and two Pro models. This year, we expected the same structure and that’s what was delivered, and like the previous release we didn't expect an iPhone mini option to be included in the series, despite some demand from hopeful users. In terms of release date, iPhone 15 Series devices are available from 22 September, a bit later than last year’s iPhone 14.

Major sells for iPhone 14 Series included an upgraded 48MP camera exclusively for iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models, while iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus cameras more closely resembled their iPhone 13 predecessor. We were given a camera upgrade across all iPhone 15 Series devices, with  iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus cameras updated to match the hero predecessor iPhone 14 Pro. Plus, several advancements in capability for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models, particularly when it comes to low-light/night shots, particularly with the 5x tetra-prism telephoto camera on iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Last year’s iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max introduced the Dynamic Island into the mix – making it easy to access and control background apps from the top of your screen, without pausing or hindering your activity. We’re pleased to see the Dynamic Island now available across all devices and not just Pro models, as it’s proven to be a popular, useful feature that enhances the smartphone experience. 

Some might be surprised to see that there are only slight improvements in battery life compared to iPhone 14 models. However, there is a key difference in playback time between the smaller and larger devices, with 20 hours of video playback on iPhone 15 and an impressive 29 hours on iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The hot topic is Apple’s confirmed switch to USB-C charging in this release. Not only did Apple fulfil this, but they will follow suit with all accessories – meaning only one charging cable is needed to power all your devices from hereon. 

Apple are rarely stingy with the colourways, and you can expect the same for iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models, offering blue, yellow, green, and pink – although sadly not the Pantone Barbie Pink that’s taken over the past year. For iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models, they’re the first iPhone devices to be made with lightweight aerospace‑grade titanium – making them the lightest Pro models to date – and are available in Natural Titanium, Black Titanium, White Titanium, and Blue Titanium.
